'Kameelah Janan Rasheed deliver(s) public messages like bee stings.' LOUIS BURY, HYPERALLERGIC

The Summit workshop programme, led by artists and activists, will help you develop the tactics, ideas, knowledge, confidence and skills to co-create lo-fi collective actions across the streets of Bristol and the place you live.

A workshop about the power of words.

Kameelah Janan Rasheed is an American artist, writer and educator based in Brooklynn NY. She has lots of experience of running workshops, both with people who have no experience of making art as well as activists and artists. The major themes of her work revolve around conflicting histories, being black in America, unearthing buried narratives, and the complexity of memory. Join her in a text based workshop for the opportunity to explore how art and the tactics of art-making can be deployed to create change.

Kameelah Janan Rasheed will also be connecting with communities around Bristol in the week leading up to the Summit. Developing texts that shout out what they stand for, using the simple power of words to make incisive interventions onto the city’s streets. You can also catch Kameelah’s artwork ‘How to Suffer Politely (And Other Etiquette‘ during the Summit.

This event is part of Still I Rise: Feminisms, Gender, Resistance – Act 3. Still I Rise is a large-scale exhibition of international artists, highlighting the experiences of women and celebrating their triumphs – with an expanded programme of performances, screenings, workshops and talks filling Arnolfini through Autumn 2019.

This event is part of the In Between Time Summit Day 1 & Day 2 programme. This workshop is included in the 1-Day Ticket or 3-Day Summit Pass OR can be booked separately.
