Description Details

A refusal to be silent. For all those who will follow

We Are Warriors is a sound and light installation created by IBT’s Artistic Director Helen Cole with over 100 women and girls from Bristol.

In Autumn 2018, 130 women and girls aged 8 to 85 from across Bristol raised their voices in tribute to those who have gone before them and called out to empower future generations in the fight for gender equality.

Experience their collective sound at Arnolfini from 1 – 16 December.

Join the Light Makers to put together a light to add to the evolving installation. Each light represents a woman. Together they burn bright.

Light Makers:

5-7pm on 4-7 & 11-14 Dec 2018

12-4pm on 1-2 & 15-16 Dec 2-18

Helen’s work has been recognised and presented numerous times across the UK and internationally from Australia to Brazil, Europe and the US. Her work has been commissioned by Barbican, Spill Festival, Venice Performance Art Festival, Performance Space Sydney, Panorama Festival (Rio de Janeiro) and PS122 (New York).

We Are Warriors is commissioned by Bristol Women’s Voice for the Deeds Not Words programme of events to mark 100 years since the first women were allowed to vote.

To help create the installation, IBT worked with Breathing Fire Black Women’s Playback Theatre Company to run workshops with women and girls from across Bristol.

We Are Warriors is supported by Arnolfini.

“Cole invites us into other people’s minds– and in doing so switches on new lights within our own.” Maddy Costa on We See Fireworks by Helen Cole
